IEM World Championship Finals
Monday 1st March 2010
Introduction
Today marks the beginning of the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship Finals held at the CeBIT trade fair located in Hannover, Germany March 2nd-6th.
The best teams and players from around the world have gathered to compete in the 3 popular eSport titles that are CounterStrike 1.6, World of Warcraft and Quake Live. Global Challenges have been held around the world, as well as regional qualifiers, in order to find the contenders for this final.
As most of you already know by now Roskilde Ravens CS 1.6 qualified for the IEM European Championship held in Cologne back in January. The team where expected to finish last in their group, but managed to shock pretty much everyone by beating some of the top teams of the world, and eventually claimed an respectable 3rd place, along with 5.000 dollars and a ticket to the World Championship.
The team has now arrived safely in Hannover, and are ready to play the Groupstage in just under 48 hours. Ravens have been placed in Group B, and will therefore be playing their matches on Day 2, of this 5 Day tournament.

Here is a look at the prizes for CounterStrike 1.6, which totals a whopping 100.000 USD:
1st - $50,000
2nd - $20,000
3rd - $8,000
4th - $4,000
5/6th - $3,000
5/6th - $3,000
7/8th - $2,000
7/8th - $2,000
9/10th - $2,000
9/10th - $2,000
11/12th - $2,000
11/12th - $2,000
The tournament contains 16 teams from around the world. The teams have been placed in 2 Groups of 6 teams in each Group. The top three of each Group will qualify for a best-of-three single elimination playoff. 2nd and 3rd place of each Group will play a relegation match, and the winners of each relegation match will then face the 1st place finishers from each Group.

Without a doubt an extremely tough Group with some of the absolute best teams around. Ravens will have to play their absolute A-game for a chance to finish top3 in this group.
